Privacy Policy

Hereafter, the following definitions will be used to simplify the following document

'We', 'Us' - Refers to us, Open Rails Transport Simulator, an open software project
'You' 'Your' - Refers to you, the user accessing a resource or service owned or operated by Open Rails
'Web Site' - Refers to http://www.openrails.com

Introduction

We are a volunteer open software project developing various free software applications for the x86 computing platform.

The current project "Open Rails" is a train simulation software program.

Collection of Information

(A) Our web site allows for you to enter Feedback information about your experience with the Open Rails software, or to Volunteer to help the Open Rails project.

(B) When submitting a FEEDBACK form the data captured is as on the form itself, it is kept in the database and is only used for the purpose of taking in the feedback and possibly for replying back to the individual posting the feedback. The data is NOT passed on or made available to anyone outside of the OpenRails team.

(C) When submitting a VOLUNTEER form the data captured is as on the form itself, it is kept in the database and is only used for the purpose of understanding the skill set of the person volunteering and possibly for replying back to the individual submitting the volunteer information. The data is NOT passed on or made available to anyone outside of the OpenRails team.


When downloading a file, the data captured is the date/time of the download, the IP address of the downloader and optionally the downloader can enter an email address. The IP address is for geographic statistics so we can see where OpenRails is being downloaded to and the email address is intended to be used for getting back in touch with people who have downloaded the software to keep them updated with important news. The data is NOT passed on or made available to anyone outside of the OpenRails team. Statistics may be made available via the web site to indicate the number of downloads, average downloads, regions of downloads etc however this will be in a statistical format and will never be made available in such a way that individuals can be tracked or traced.

(D) While we do not currently do it, we reserve the right to track your access of the web sites that we run in order to understand usage patterns and optimize the web site so that it provides a better experience.

(E) We do not and will not perform any tracking of your activities outside of our web sites.

(F) We collect limited information about you via web forms that you must proactively complete. This information includes First Name, Last Name, Email address, and other information relating to your Interest in volunteering or feedback about Open Rails software. No information is collected automatically or loaded from any external data source, if you did not enter it - we do not have it.

Use and Disclosure of Information

Each section here relates to the same lettered section in the 'Collection of Information' section.

(A) This information is strictly for our own use but if this is ever made public it will only be made public in a summary or report form showing totals and there will not be any possible way that it can be tracked back to an individual. For example, such a report might show how many hits the site had per month.

(B) If we should start to perform this activity we will not make the data available to anyone outside of the organization and it will not be kept for more than 90 days. On engaging in this activity we pledge to clearly announce this change in the Privacy Policy.

(C) This information is not disclosed to anyone outside of yourself.

(D) No data collected.

Security

We will make every effort to provide an appropriate level of security for the data held on the system and protect your data from unauthorized access. In the potential event of anyone breaching the security we pledge to notify all those affected users via the web site in a prominent position on the web site.

Our servers are located in secure facilities in Virginia, USA and we are sharing hosting servers with UKTrainsim.com

Cookies

Definition

The name is derived from 'fortune cookie', something that has some small data contained within it.

A 'cookie' is a small piece of textual data that can be requested to be stored on your computer by a web site in order to provide some persistent information between requests to the site. This could include storing a session id, storing username and password information or other such information that enables modern automated facilities such as automatically completing web forms in for example.

First-Party Cookies

First Party Cookies are ones that come directly from the web site that you are using.

The Open Rails website does not make any use of cookies at this point in time and if they receive any from our site then they may be rejected and should be reported back to us immediately. This may be subject to change in the future should be add the ability to "log in", at which point the privacy policy will be appropriately updated.
